International Affairs Club meeting Thursday, Nov. 5th. (LIZOTTE)

Next Monday, November 9, facial piercings will be permitted at Troy High School, but there are always rules that coexist with privileges. The primary objection to the restriction on piercings has been that the hole in the face will close up if the piercing is not worn all the time. The new privilege is meant to mitigate this problem, and nothing more. What this means is that your piercing should be the MINIMUM size necessary to prevent the hole in your face from closing up. Yes, this is a subjective determination and problems will arise. The metalheads on campus are to be commended for complying with our 45 day moratorium on piercings and hopefully will continue that same cooperative attitude to making this new privilege work for everyone. This new privilege is not about free expression, the first amendment, or your right to privacy, it is about keeping that hole in your face open. We can do that without causing distraction. If a staff member tells you your piercing is too big, you need to change it. The office has plastic spacers you can use. (RALSTON)
